Changing generations one life at a time

JINJA JEWELRY - One answer to extreme poverty.

Jinja is the town where we built the FM Light and Life Church in 2006 that now serves as the only community center in the area. This is the place where we recruited and trained our first beading group. Historically, Jinja is famous for its legendary tourist attractions, The Nile River and its class 5 rapids at Bujagali falls- which represent one of the premier whitewater rafting and kayaking destinations in the world, the mighty Lake Victoria—that 18th century explorer John Hannington Speke confirmed to be the source of the Nile river. Our jewelry was thus named Jinja Jewelry with the hopes of attracting inquisitive and fun loving minds to travel and behold the beauty God created while serving the poorest of humanity.

Jinja Jewelry is an eclectic, handcrafted, fair trade jewelry that is made by formerly unemployed peoples of Uganda. Currently, we have 44 women making Jinja Jewelry. Our beaders are paid twice as much for their jewelry in comparison with the open markets. 20% of the profits are used for operating costs while 80% goes to fund all the Hope Institute programs (scholarships, youth conferences and hospital support).

Partnering with Hope Institute and Jinja jewelry will enable you to bring hope to the hopeless, by providing economic opportunity and environmental responsibility that leaves a better world for you, your children and grandchildren.
